Iron Plain and with Folic Acid · Iron salt

Indications

Prevention & treatment of iron deficiency anaemia.

Dosage

Cap/Tab/Syp: Adults: 1 cap/tab daily or 10 mL syp daily. Children: Infants up to 1 yr, 1.25-2.5 mL daily; 1-12 yr, 2.5-5 mL daily; above 12 yr, same as adult.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: No evidence of risk in humans. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined.

Pharmacokinetics

Onset of action: 3-10 days (reticulocytosis); 2-4 wks (Hb value increases). Absorption: Absorbed in the duodenum and upper jejunum. 10% (normal iron stores). 20%-30% (inadequate iron stores). Excretion: Urine. Sweat. Sloughing of intestinal mucosa. Menstruation.
