Bronchodilator & Anti-asthma Preps: Inhalants · Beta-2 agonist

Indications

Maintenance treatment of COPD.

Dosage

Adults: 150 mcg inhaled once daily. If necessary, increase to 300 mcg once daily. Children: Under 18 yr: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

RTI, inflammation and congestion, diabetes, headache, dizziness, chest pain, ischaemic heart disease, cough, pharyngeo-laryngeal pain, rhinorrhoea, muscle spasm, peripheral oedema. Reports of hypersensitivity.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Positive evidence of risk: Use only when no safer alternative exists for a serious problem. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Precautions: Risk of paradoxical bronchospasm (discontinue immediately). Cardiovascular or convulsive disorders. Thyrotoxicosis, diabetes.

Interactions

Sympathomimetics, beta-blockers, xanthines, steroids, diuretics.
