Indications
Treatment of infections - especially in septic processes caused by gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria or their toxins-with the simultaneous use of antibiotics. Immunoglobulin substitution in immune suppressed patients and severe secondary antibody deficiency syndrome.
Dosage
3-5 mL/kg body weight/day for three consecutive days.
Adverse Effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, chills, fever, headache, dizziness, arthralgia, myalgia, muscle spasms, low back pain, allergic reactions, injection site reactions, anaphylactic reactions, thromboembolic events. Rarely hypotension, aseptic meningitis, acute renal failure.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: Selective IgA deficiencies, anti-IgA antibodies. Precautions: History of typical reactions to blood or blood products. Risk factors for thrombotic events or acute renal failure. Monitor for adverse reactions and anaphylactoid reactions during infusion.
Interactions
Hydantoins; e.g. Phenytoin, Virus vaccines, Live/measles, mumps, rubella vaccines, inactivated vaccines e.g. DPT, Hib, OPV, rabies vaccine, immunosuppressants.
