Indications

Herpes simplex infections of the skin.

Dosage

Herpes simplex infections of the skin: Adults: Apply 4 times daily for 4 days, starting at first sign of attack. Continue for further 5 days if healing not complete. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Stinging on application, change in taste, overuse may cause maceration.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Contraindications: Dermographia. Pregnancy. Precautions: Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membrane and textiles. Breast feeding.

Pharmacokinetics

IDOXURIDINE: Absorption: Poor penetration into the skin. Metabolism: Rapidly inactivated by deaminases or nucleotidases. Excretion: Urine. DIMETHYL SULFOXIDE: Absorption: Readily and rapidly absorbed. Metabolism: Via oxidation to dimethyl sulfone or by reduction in dimethyl sulfide. Excretion: Urine and Faeces.
