Indications

Eye: Topical bacterial infections caused by sensitive organisms associated with inflammatory and/or allergic conditions of the eye. Ear: Otitis externa, chronic suppurative otitis media.

Dosage

Eye: Adults & Children: 1-2 drops four hourly. Ear: Adults & Children: 2-4 drops three or four times daily and at night.

Adverse Effects

Superinfection.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Precautions: Pregnancy. Avoid prolonged use in infants. Perforated ear drum.

Advice to Patient

Wash hands properly before use. To instill medication into eyes, tilt head back, look upward, instill drops or apply thin layer of ointment inside lower eyelid. Close eye and roll eyeball in all directions. Do not blink for 30 seconds. Apply gentle pressure to inner corner of eye. Contact prescriber if there is eye pain, changes in vision, no improvement or worsening of condition. Avoid touching tip of applicator with eye. Do not share medication with anyone else.

Pharmacokinetics

HYDROCORTISONE: Absorption: Well-absorbed into the eye. Systemic absorption is negligible. GENTAMICIN: Half-life elimination: 2-3 hrs.
