Indications
Passive immunization for individuals exposed to the Hepatitis B virus. Perinatal exposure of infants born to HbS Ag - positive mothers.
Dosage
Individuals exposed: 0.06 mL/kg body wt. by IM Injection as soon after exposure as possible (preferably within 7 days). Perinatal exposure of infants: 0.5 mL to infants within 12 hr after birth.
Adverse Effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, chills, fever, headache, dizziness, arthralgia, myalgia, muscle spasms, low back pain, allergic reactions, injection site reactions, anaphylactic reactions, thromboembolic events. Rarely hypotension, aseptic meningitis, acute renal failure.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: IgA deficiency, interference with live virus vaccines. Precautions: History of typical reactions to blood or blood products. Risk factors for thrombotic events or acute renal failure. Monitor for adverse reactions and anaphylactoid reactions during infusion.
Interactions
May interfere with live vaccines to induce an immune response and a suitable interval should separate their administration.
