Indications
Stimulation of follicular development in women with severe LH and FSH deficiency.
Dosage
Adults: One vial daily by SC inj. Supplement with additional FSH if necessary. See literature. Children: Not applicable.
Administration
Administer via SC route. The first injection should be performed under direct medical supervision. Self-administration should only be performed by patients who are well motivated, adequately trained and with access to expert advice. Reconstitution: The powder should be reconstituted immediately prior to use with the solvent provided. Gently swirl the vial. The pH of the reconstituted solution is 6.5-7.5. Stability: Shelf life of unopened vials is 3 years. Reconstituted solution is for an immediate and single use following first opening and reconstitution therefore the product may not be stored once opened and reconstituted.
Adverse Effects
Headache, GI upset, ovarian cysts, breast and pelvic pain, ovarian hyperstimulation.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Tumours of hypothalamus, pituitary, ovary, uterus or breast. Ovarian enlargement or cyst not due to PCOS. Unexplained vaginal bleeding. Primary ovarian failure, malformatics or fibroids incompatible with pregnancy. Precautions: Renal or hepatic impairment. Treat other endocrine disorders first. Monitor ovarian size and oestrogen response during and for at least 2 weeks and later on after treatment to avoid hyperstimulation (withdraw if symptoms occur and advise patient to avoid intercourse or use barrier contraception for 4 days). Porphyria or a family history of porphyria. Risk factors for thromboembolic events.
Advice to Patient
Self-administer only if you are well-trained. Contact prescriber if there is stomach pain/discomfort. Complete full course of treatment even if you feel better before completion of course.
