Fluticasone and Vilanterol

Bronchodilator & Anti-asthma Preps: Inhalants · Beta-2 agonist/Corticosteroid

Indications

Asthma: Adults: = 12 years: where use of a combination product (long-acting beta 2-agonist and inhaled corticosteroid) is appropriate. COPD: Symptomatic treatment of adults with COPD with post bronchodilator FEV 1 <70% predictated and a history of exacerbation despite regular bronchodilator therapy.

Dosage

Asthma: Adults: = 12 yr: 1 inhalation once daily. Children < 12 yr: Not recommended. COPD: Adults = 18 yr: 1 inhalation once daily. It should be administered at the same time of the day, each day.

Adverse Effects

Pneumonia, upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, influenza, candidiasis of mouth and throat, headache, nasopharyngitis, oropharyngeal pain, sinusitis, pharyngitis, rhinitis, cough, dysphonia, abdominal pain, arthralgia, back pain, fractures, pyrexia.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients. Precautions: Deterioration of disease, paradoxical bronchospasm, cardiac arrhythmias e.g. supraventricular tachycardia and extrasystoles, hepatic impairment, cushing’s syndrome, cushingoid features, adrenal suppression, decrease in bone mineral density, growth retardation in children and adolescents, cataract and glaucoma, a range of psychological or behavioural effects including psychomotor hyperactivity, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression or aggression (particularly in children), pulmonary tuberculosis or in patients with chronic or untreated infections, hyperglycaemia, pneumonia in patients with COPD.

Interactions

Beta-blockers, CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, ritonavir), P-glycoprotein inhibitors.
