Indications
Management of local inflammatory, pruritic and allergic skin disorders where secondary bacterial infection is present or likely.
Dosage
Adults & Children: A small quantity applied lightly to affected areas 2 or 3 times a day.
Adverse Effects
Cushingoid changes, adrenal suppression, local skin reactions, acne, atrophy, striae, telangiectasia, mild pigmentation, hypertrichosis, pruritus, folliculitis. Hypersensitivity reactions incl contact dermatitis (discontinue).
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: Untreated bacterial, fungal or viral infections or parasitic infestations, use on burns, acne or rosacea, perioral dermatitis, widespread plaque psoriasis, perianal or genital pruritus, pruritus without inflammation. Precautions: Do not use potent steroids to treat diaper dermatoses in infants. Avoid extensive or prolonged use (limit to max 7 days in children). If using potent steroids in children or on face, limit to 5 days and avoid occlusion. Avoid mucous membranes and eye area. Broken, inflamed or occluded skin, psoriasis, dermatitis around chronic leg ulcers. Risk of visual disturbances. Elderly.
Advice to Patient
For external use only. Wash and dry the skin before applying. Apply a thin film to cover affected areas and rub gently. Wash hands thoroughly after applying, unless hands are the area being treated. Consult prescriber if no improvement is seen after few days of treatment. Do not use for more than prescribed period of time. Avoid medication contact with eyes, nose and mouth. In case of contact, wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water. Do not use airtight dressing unless recommended by the prescriber. Regular check-ups are necessary if you are being treated for psoriasis.
Pharmacokinetics
FLUOCINOLONE: Absorption: Absorbed from normal intact skin. Inflammation and/or other disease processes in the skin increase percutaneous absorption. Occlusive dressings substantially increase the percutaneous absorption. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: 1.3-1.7 hrs. Excretion: Kidneys. NEOMYCIN: Absorption: Not absorbed through intact skin. It may be absorbed from wounds, burns, or skin ulcers. Metabolism: Not metabolized.
