Tranquilizer, Sedative/Hypnotic · Benzoxazine
Indications
Psychosomatic manifestations of anxiety such as autonomic dystonia, notably of a cardiovascular nature. Chemotherapy-induced pain. Fear, increased irritability, decreased mood.
Dosage
Adults: 150-200 mg/day. Max duration: 12 wks. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Drowsiness, maculopapular rash, erythema multiforme, itching, facial oedema.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Shock, myasthenia gravis, severe hepatic impairment, severe renal impairment, galactosaemia, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, lactase deficiency.
Interactions
Opioid analgesics, barbiturates, opiates, antihistamines, neuroleptics, antitussives.
Advice to Patient
Swallow whole cap with little amount of water. Due to risk of drowsiness, avoid driving and other tasks that require mental alertness.

Absorption: Rapidly absorbed by the GI tract. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: 6 hrs. Active metabolite (Diethyl-etifoxine): Approx. 20 hrs. Time to peak: 2-3 hrs. Excretion: Urine. Bile.
