Anti-acne Preps · Macrolide/Vitamin A derivative
Indications
Mild to moderate acne vulgaris.
Dosage
Adults: Apply sparingly once or twice daily for minimum 6-8 wk. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Local irritation.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: History or family history of cutaneous epithelioma. Pregnancy, lactation. Precautions: Avoid eyes, mouth, mucous membrane, abraded or sunburnt skin, build up in skinfold areas. Avoid UV light.
Interactions
Keratolytics.
Advice to Patient
Wash and dry the skin before applying. Apply a thin film to cover affected areas and surrounding skin and rub gently. Wash hands thoroughly after applying, unless hands are the area being treated. Do not apply to peeled, sunburnt or sore skin, allow skin to recover before starting this medication. Avoid medication contact with eyes, nose and mouth. Do not let it build up in the folds or creases of your skin.
Pharmacokinetics
ERYTHROMYCIN: Absorption: Not absorbed systemically. ISOTRETINOIN: Absorption: Negligible systemic absorption.
