Bronchodilator & Anti-asthma Preps: Orals/Parenterals · Xanthine
Indications
Bronchospasm in asthma and chronic bronchitis.
Dosage
TAB: Adults: 400 mg 2-3 times daily. SYP: Children: 6-12 yr, 1 tsp 2-3 times daily. Under 6 yr, not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Tachycardia, nausea, Gl distress, headache, insomnia, arrhythmias.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Precautions: Cardiac or liver disease. Peptic ulceration.
Interactions
Cimetidine, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, interferon.
Advice to Patient
Take with or without meals.

Metabolism: Hepatic. Bioavailability: 63 ± 25%. Half-life elimination: IV: 1.83 ± 0.37 hrs. Oral: 7.01 ± 0.8 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: 1.19 ± 0.19 hrs. Excretion: Urine.
