Indications

All dermatoses which respond to topical corticosteroid therapy. Not suitable for peri-oral dermatitis and rosacea.

Dosage

Adults & Children: Apply 2 or 3 times daily reducing from maintenance to once daily. Under 4 yr, max treatment period three wk.

Adverse Effects

Burning, itching, irritation, erythema, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, pruritus, acneiform eruptions, hypo-pigmentation, peri-oral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, numbness of fingers, stinging and cracking/tightening of skin, maceration of the skin, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae, malaria, telangiectasia, cushingoid changes, adrenal suppression, local skin reactions, acne, folliculitis. Hypersensitivity reactions incl contact dermatitis (discontinue).

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Contraindications: Monotherapy in primary bacterial infections such as impetigo, paronychia, erysipelas, cellulitis, angular cheilitis, erythrasma, treatment of rosacea, peri-oral dermatitis or acne; use on face, groin or axilla (very high or high potency agents). Untreated fungal or viral infections or parasitic infestations, use on burns, acne or rosacea, perioral dermatitis, widespread plaque psoriasis, perianal or genital pruritus, pruritus without inflammation. Precautions: Systemic effects usually results from use of more potent steroids, use over large surface area and the addition of occlusive dressings. If local irritation develops discontinue use. Skin atrophy may be clinically significant after prolong use of potent steroids or use on areas with higher percutaneous absorption. Do not use steroid as sole therapy in psoriasis. Advice to Patient

Wash hands before use. Clean and dry the affected area, apply a small amount of medication in a thin layer on the skin and rub in gently. Wash your hands after use, unless product is being used to treat the hands. If other creams, ointments or lotions are also to be applied on the same area of skin, leave about half an hour between applying each one. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the treated area unless recommended. Do not use for more than prescribed period of time. Avoid contact of medication with eyes, nose and mouth. In case of contact, wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption: Rapidly absorbed into the skin. It may be absorbed systemically. The percutaneous absorption depends on the vehicle, dose, treatment area, duration of treatment, the condition of treatment, the status of penetration barrier and localization of treated area in the body. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: 4-5 hrs. Excretion: Urine (75%). Faeces (25%).
