Anti-rheumatic, Systemic · Anthraquinone derivative

Indications

Treatment of degenerative joint diseases (osteoarthritis & related diseases).

Dosage

Adults: 1 cap twice daily. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Accelerated intestinal transit time with diarrhoea, loose or soft stools within the 1st few days of therapy; urine may appear more intensely yellow in colour.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: History of hypersensitivity to anthraquinone derivatives. Precautions: Not to be taken concomitantly with laxatives. Reduce dose in patients with renal insufficiency.

Interactions

Aluminium and magnesium containing antacids.

Advice to Patient

Take with meals.

Absorption: Rapid and complete. Metabolism: Gut and liver. Bioavailability: 50%-60%. Half-life elimination: 4-10 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: 2.5 hrs. Excretion: Urine (30%). Faeces (60%).
