Indications

Cream/Lotion: For daily care of skin exposed to drying, damaging environmental factors (for e.g. the hands and elbows); for the treatment of pressure points, redness, sunburn, minor burns and inflamed but broken skin. Ointment: For the prevention and treatment of chafed, cracked or split skin; for dry skin, for regular breast care and the treatment of sore nipples by nursing mothers; in infant care as a protective barrier against nappy (diaper) wetness and for the prevention of chafing, redness and diaper rash.

Dosage

Cream/Lotion: Apply one or more times daily as needed. Ointment: Damaged Skin: Apply oint one or more times daily as needed. Nursing Mothers: Apply oint to the nipples after each breastfeeding. Infant Care: At each nappy change, spread ointment over baby's bottom.

Adverse Effects

Rarely skin reactions.

Advice to Patient

For external use only. Wash hands before and after application. Before applying, dry the affected area thoroughly. If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as possible, unless it is time for the next dose. Do not apply double dose. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption: Rapid. Rate of penetration and absorption is decreased when Dexpanthenol is administered as an oil/water formula. Metabolism: Readily converted to pantothenic acid.
