Indications

Short-term, local symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain and inflammation associated with acute soft tissue injuries, including sprains, strains, sports injuries, and rheumatic pain.

Dosage

Adults, elderly and children =15 yrs: Apply a thin layer of 2-4 gm gel over 5-10 cm area about 2-4 times daily or as directed. Gently massage on the painful or inflamed surface. Max: 15 gm/day. Do not use for more than 7 days. Children <15 yrs: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Rare: Photosensitization, urticaria, bullous/contact/exfoliative/vesicular dermatitis, phlyctenular eczema, blister, photosensitivity reaction, allergic reaction, skin exfoliation, skin oedema. Very rare: Cases of aggravation of previous renal insufficiency, acute renal failure.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Precautions: Severe hepatic, renal or cardiac dysfunction. History of bronchial asthma, chronic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis and/or nasal polyposis.

Interactions

Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin), antiplatelet agents (e.g., aspirin), corticosteroids, SSRIs, potassium-sparing diuretics, other NSAIDs (e.g., COX-2 inhibitors).

Advice to Patient

Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the gel to prevent accidental contact with eyes or mouth. Avoid exposing treated skin to direct sunlight or sunlamps during treatment and for 2 weeks afterward to prevent photosensitivity. Do not apply to open wounds, mucosal membranes (eyes, nose, mouth), or areas with active eczema, rashes, or infections. Discontinue treatment and report immediately if you develop any skin rash, itching or signs of an allergic reaction.
