Clindamycin and Benzoyl Peroxide
Anti-acne Preps · Antibacterial-keratolytic/Lincosamide
Indications
Mild to moderate acne.
Dosage
Adults: Apply once daily in the evening after washing and drying the skin. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Mild local irritation, headache. Reports of diarrhoea and colitis (discontinue immediately).
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: History of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis or antibiotic associated colitis. History of lincomycin sensitivity. Precautions: Avoid eyes, mouth and mucous membranes. History of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis or antibiotic-associated colitis. Atopic patients. Minimize exposure to UV light.
Advice to Patient
Wash affected area with mild, non-medicated cleanser, rinse with warm water and dry the skin before applying. Apply a thin film to cover affected areas and rub gently. Wash hands thoroughly after applying, unless hands are the area being treated. Apply it at the same time each day. Contact prescriber if there is no improvement or worsening of condition. Avoid medication contact with eyes, nose, mouth and broken skin. Do not change dosage or apply for more than prescribed period of time without consulting prescriber.

CLINDAMYCIN: Absorption: Minimal (4%-5%). Metabolism: Hepatic. Excretion: Urine. BENZOYL PEROXIDE: Absorption: Approx. 5% via skin. Gel has more penetration than cream. Metabolism: Converted to benzoic acid in skin. Excretion: Renal (urine).
