Indications

Cerebral and peripheral circulatory disorders: prophylaxis and maintenance therapy for symptoms of cerebral vascular spasms, vascular spasms, arteriosclerosis such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, ear buzzing, vascular headache, intermittent claudication, Raynaud's disease. Prophylaxis of motion sickness.

Dosage

Adults: Cerebral circulatory disorders: 25 mg every 8 hr. Peripheral circulatory disorders: 50-75 mg every 8 hr. Motion sickness: 25 mg half an hr before travelling to be repeated after every 8 hr. Children: Relief of symptoms of vestibular disorders: 5-12 yr, 15 mg 3 times daily; 12-18 yr, 30 mg 3 times daily. Motion sickness: 5-12 yr, 15 mg 2 hr before travel then 7.5 mg every 8 hr during journey if necessary; 12-18 yr, 30 mg 2 hr before travel then 15 mg every 8 hr during journey if necessary.

Adverse Effects

GI upset, drowsiness. Rarely, headache, dry mouth, sweating, allergic reactions.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Porphyria. Precautions: Parkinson's disease. Hypotension. Renal or hepatic impairment.

Interactions

Alcohol, CNS depressants, TCADs.

Advice to Patient

Take with meals.

Absorption: Absorbed slowly from the GI tract. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: 3-6 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: Oral: 2-4 hrs. Excretion: Urine (1/3rd of the metabolites). Faeces (2/3rd of the metabolites).
