Indications
Treatment of essential and renal hypertension.
Dosage
Adults: Initially 2.5 mg once daily, if required can be increased to 5 mg once daily. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Headache, dizziness, fatigue, hypotension, dyspepsia, nausea, rash, cough.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to cilazapril or any other ACE inhibitor, patients with ascites. Precautions: Symptomatic hypotension. Liver cirrhosis or impaired renal function. Surgery, anaesthesia.
Interactions
Antihypertensives, potassium sparing diuretics, NSAIDs.
Advice to Patient
Take with or without meals. Swallow tablets whole with a glass of water. Contact prescriber if there is dizziness, light-headedness, dry cough, headache, unusual tiredness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, changes in vision, difficulty in speech, swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty in breathing, redness/itching/blisters on skin, chest pain. Change position slowly from sitting or lying to standing if you feel dizziness. Reduce alcohol intake. Take low-fat diet including fresh vegetables, fruit, bread, cereals and fish. Reduce salt intake. Exercise regularly, avoid smoking.
