Ceftazidime and Avibactam

Indications
Infections caused by designated susceptible Gram-negative microorganisms such as complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI), complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI) including Pyelonephritis, hospital-acquired bacterial pneumoniae and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumoniae (HABP/VABP).
Dosage
Adults =18 yrs: Inj: 2.5 gm inj administered every 8 hrs via IV infusion over 2 hrs with CrCl>50 mL/min. For treatment of cIAI, metronidazole should be given concurrently. Recommended duration of treatment: cIAI: 5-14 days. cUTI including pyelonephritis: 7-14 days. HABP/VABP: 7-14 days. Children: Not recommended.
Administration
Administered via IV infusion over 2 hrs. Reconstitution: Constitute the powder in the vial with 10 mL of one of the compatible solns. Mix gently. The constituted soln will have an approx. ceftazidime conc. of 0.167 gm/mL and an approx. avibactam conc of 0.042 gm/mL. The final vol is approx. 12 mL. The constituted soln is not for direct inj. The constituted soln must be diluted before IV inf. Prepare the required dose for IV inf by withdrawing the appropriate vol. from the constituted vial. 2.5 gm dose: 12 mL (entire contents). 1.25 gm dose: 6 mL. 0.94 gm dose: 4.5 mL. Before inf, dilute the withdrawn vol of the constituted soln further with the same diluent used for constitution of the powd (except SWFI), to achieve a total vol between 50 mL to 250 mL in an inf bag. Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: No evidence of risk in humans. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea. Precautions: Renal impairment.

Advice to Patient
Contact prescriber if you experience diarrhoea, symptoms of disturbed consciousness including confusion, hallucinations, stupor, coma, myoclonus and seizures.
