Carbachol
Miotic, Antiglaucoma Preps · Parasympathomimetic agent
Indications
Lowers intraocular pressure in the treatment of glaucoma; cause miosis during surgery.
Dosage
Adults: Ophthalmic surgery (miosis): 0.5 mL instilled into anterior chamber before or after securing sutures. Glaucoma: 1-2 drops up to three times daily.
Administration
For single-dose intraocular use only. Open under aseptic conditions only. Discard unused portion. Stability: Store at 15°C-30°C (46°F-80°F).

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset: Ophthalmic: 10-20 mins. Intraocular: 2-3 mins. Duration: Ophthalmic: 4-8 hrs. Intraocular: 24 hrs. Absorption: Penetrates intact corneal epithelium very poorly. Time to peak: Ophthalmic: 4 hrs. Intraocular: 2-5 mins.
