Indications
Apnoea in premature newborns.
Dosage
Neonates: Loading dose: 20 mg/kg by slow IV infusion over 30 minutes. After an interval of 24 hours, Maintenance dose of 5 mg/kg may be administered by slow IV infusion over 10 minutes every 24 hours. Alternatively maintenance dose of 5 mg/kg may be administered by oral administration.
Adverse Effects
Irritability, restlessness and jitteriness, tachycardia, hypertension, increased stroke volume.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Precautions: Increase heart rate, CVD with impaired renal or hepatic function, GERD, Increase in metabolism, diuresis and loss of electrolytes.
Interactions
Theophylline.
