Indications

Treatment of postoperative inflammation and reduction of ocular pain following cataract surgery.

Dosage

Adults and Elderly: 0.07%: Instill 1 drop into affected eye once daily beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery and continue on the day of surgery and for 14 days postoperatively. 0.075%: Instill 1 drop into affected eye twice daily beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery and continue on the day of surgery and for 14 days postoperatively. 0.09% once-daily formulation: Instill 1 drop into affected eye once daily beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery and continue on the day of surgery and for 14 days postoperatively. 0.09% twice-daily formulation: Instill 1 drop into affected eye twice daily beginning 24 hrs after cataract surgery and continue through the first 14 days postoperatively. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Reports of corneal epithelial breakdown (discontinue and monitor).

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Aspirin/anti-inflammatory induced allergies. Contact lenses. Precautions: Hypersensitivity to sulfites. Bleeding tendencies. Complicated ocular surgery, corneal denervation, corneal epithelial defects, diabetes, ocular surface diseases, rheumatoid arthritis.

Interactions

Drugs that prolong bleeding time.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption: Permeates efficiently into the cornea of cataract patients. Half-life elimination: 1.4 hrs (aqueous humour).
