Brinzolamide
Miotic, Antiglaucoma Preps · Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor
Indications
Monotherapy where beta-blockers are ineffective or contraindicated or as adjunct to beta-blockers, in open angle glaucoma & ocular hypertension.
Dosage
Adults: 1 drop in the affected eye two or three times daily. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Transient disturbed vision, ocular discomfort, hyperaemia, taste perversion, headache, dry mouth.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Hepatic or severe renal impairment, hyperchloraemic acidosis, history of hypersensitivity to sulphonamide. Precautions: Pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma, pigmentary glaucoma, narrow-angle glaucoma, diabetes, contact lense wearers, corneal disorder, dry eye condition, monitor closely. Remove contact lenses; wait 15 min before reinserting.

Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, CYP3A4 inhibitors.
Advice to Patient
Wash hands properly before use. Remove contact lenses before use. Wait 15 minutes before reinserting. To instill medication into eyes, tilt head back, look upward, instill drops into the eye. Close eye and roll eyeball in all directions. Do not blink for 30 seconds. Apply gentle pressure to inner corner of eye for 30 seconds. Contact prescriber if there is eye pain; eye infection; changes in vision; dizziness; headache; constant sore throat; no improvement or worsening of condition. Avoid touching tip of applicator with eye. Do not share medication with anyone else. Wait 5 minutes before instilling any other medication. Avoid taking aspirin or aspirin-containing medications.

Absorption: Absorbed into systemic circulation following topical ocular application. Metabolism: Ophthalmic. Half-life elimination: 111 days. Excretion: Urine (60%).
