Indications

Benign gastric and duodenal ulcer. Also used as a part of regimen for Helicobacter pylori eradication.

Dosage

Adults: Benign gastric & duodenal ulcer: 2 tab twice daily or 1 tab 4 times daily; taken for 28 days followed by further 28 days if necessary; maintenance not indicated but course may be repeated after interval of 1 mth. Twice daily dosage to be taken 30 min before breakfast and main evening meal. Four times daily dosage to be taken as one dose 30 min before breakfast, midday meal and main evening meal and the fourth dose 2 hr after the main evening meal. Milk should not be taken during treatment. As a part of H. pylori eradication regimen: 1 tab 4 times daily for 14 days. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Blackening of stool, may darken tongue, nausea and vomiting.

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Renal impairment. Precautions: Prolonged use.

Interactions

Antibacterials: reduced absorption of tetracyclines.

Bioavailability: 0.16%-0.28%. Half-life elimination: Approx. 5 days. Time to peak, plasma: 30 mins. Excretion: Urine. Faeces.
