Indications
Conditions where secondary bacterial infection is present, suspected or likely to occur: Eczema, including atopic, infantile, discoid and stasis eczemas. Insect bites, sunburn, prickly heat, anal and vulval pruritus and otitis externa.
Dosage
Adults & Children: Apply sparingly two or three times daily.
Advice to Patient
Wash and dry the skin before applying cream/ointment/lotion. Apply a thin film to cover affected areas and rub gently. Wash hands thoroughly after applying, unless hands are the area being treated. If you are using other medicines or moisturizers, leave half an hour between applying each product. Do not apply for more than prescribed period of time. Avoid contact of medication with eyes, nose and mouth. In case of contact, wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water. Do not use airtight dressing to cover the area under treatment.
Pharmacokinetics
BETAMETHASONE VALERATE: Absorption: It ranges from about 1% in areas with a thick stratum corneum to as high as 36% in areas with a thin stratum corneum. Absorption increases in areas of skin damage, inflammation, or occlusion. Some systemic absorption of topical steroids occurs. Metabolism: After topical administration, drug is metabolized primarily in skin. The small amount absorbed into systemic circulation is metabolized hepatically. Excretion: Renal (inactive metabolites). Faeces (small amounts of metabolites). NEOMYCIN: Absorption: Not absorbed through intact skin. It may be absorbed from wounds, burns, or skin ulcers. Metabolism: Not metabolized.
