Indications
Acne vulgaris.
Dosage
Adults: Apply once daily. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Transient irritation and peeling.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Precautions: Avoid eyes, mouth and mucous membranes. Minimize exposure to UV light. Risk of swelling and blistering; discontinue if occurs.
Advice to Patient
Wash and dry the skin before applying. Apply a thin film to cover affected areas and rub gently. Wash hands thoroughly after applying, unless hands are the area being treated. Shake lotion well before use. Do not cover or bandage the treated area unless recommended by the prescriber. Benzoyl peroxide may bleach hair or fabric. Avoid medication contact with hair or clothing.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption: Approx. 5% via skin. Gel has more penetration than cream. Metabolism: Converted to benzoic acid in skin. Excretion: Renal (urine).
