Beclomethasone and Formoterol

Bronchodilator & Anti-asthma Preps: Inhalants · Beta-2 agonist/Corticosteroid

Indications

Regular treatment of asthma where long acting beta2-agonists and inhaled corticosteroid is appropriate.

Dosage

Adults: 1-2 puffs twice daily; max 4 puffs daily. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Pharyngitis, headache, hoarseness. Rarely paradoxical bronchospasm.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Precautions: Cardiac impairment including QTc prolongation, thyrotoxicosis, diabetes, pheochromocytoma, hypokalaemia, unstable asthma (monitor serum potassium). Active or quiescent pulmonary TB, fungal or viral infections of the airways. Do not use for the relief of acute asthma attacks. Prolonged treatment with high doses of inhaled corticosteroids increases risk of adrenal suppression and systemic effects. Consider additional systemic steroids in stress or surgery. Transferring from systemic steroids.

Interactions

Beta-blockers (including eye drops), drugs prolonging the QTc interval, MAOIs, theophylline, steroids, diuretics, levodopa, levothyroxine, oxytocin, alcohol, anaesthetics.
