Bronchodilator & Anti-asthma Preps: Orals/Parenterals · Xanthine
Indications
Bronchial asthma, pulmonary infections with bronchospastic component.
Dosage
Adults: 1 dragee in the morning and 1 dragee in the evening before meals. Dosage can vary from 900 to 1800 mg daily according to medical advice. Do not administer the drug at short intervals. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Headache or gastralgia, nausea and slight distal tremors, urticaria, itching, rash, dermatitis.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Acute myocardial infarction. Known hypersensitivity to xanthine derivatives. Precautions: Patients with severe heart failure, serious hypertension, hepatic & renal insufficiency, gastric ulcer and hyperthyroidism.
Interactions
Erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, anti-influenza vaccine, propranolol, phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, cigarette's smoking, other xanthine compounds, ephedrine or other broncho-dilating sympathomimetics.

Absorption: Rapid. Half-life elimination: 1.5-2 hrs. Terminal: 17.5 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: 1-2 hrs. Excretion: Urine (mostly). Faeces.
