Indications
Peptic ulcer, oesophagitis, gastritis, hiatus hernia.
Dosage
Susp: Adults: 5-10 mL 3 or 4 times daily before meals and at bedtime. Children: Not recommended. Tab: Adults: 1 tab three times a day. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Anorexia, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, diarrhoea, headache, vertigo, weakness, drowsiness.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Precautions: Chronic use.
Pharmacokinetics
ALUMINIUM HYDROXIDE: Onset of action: Variable. Duration: 20-80 mins. Absorption: Minimal absorption. Small amounts may be absorbed systemically. Excretion: Faeces. MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE: Onset of action: 0.5-3 hrs. Duration: Variable. Absorption: About 15%-50% is absorbed very slowly through the small intestine. Metabolism: Does not undergo metabolism. Excretion: Urine (absorbed portion of drug). Faeces, saliva (unabsorbed portion of drug). OXETHAZAINE: Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: Approx. 1 hr. Time to peak, plasma: 1 hr. Excretion: Urine.
