Indications
Acne vulgaris with comedones; papules and pustules.
Dosage
Adults: Wash and dry affected area. Apply thin film once daily in evening. Children: Under 12 yr: Not recommended. Above 12 yr: Same as adult.
Adverse Effects
Skin irritation; reduce application or withdraw if severe.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Broken or sunburned skin, eczema. Precautions: Avoid eyes, lips, mucous membranes, excessive exposure to sunlight.

Retinoids.
Advice to Patient
Wash and dry the skin before applying. Use fingertips to apply a small amount of medication to the affected areas. Wash hands thoroughly after applying, unless hands are the area being treated. Apply at the same time every day. Avoid contact of medication with eyes, nose and mouth. In case of contact, wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water. Do not apply to cut, scraped, sunburned or eczema-affected skin.
Pharmacokinetics
ADAPALENE: Onset: Optimal response is seen after 8-12 wks. Absorption: Low absorption through skin. Metabolism: Via O-demethylation, hydroxylation and conjugation. Excretion: Biliary (Faeces). BENZOYL PEROXIDE: Absorption: Approx. 5% via skin. Gel has more penetration than cream. Metabolism: Converted to benzoic acid in skin. Excretion: Renal (urine).
