Indications
Treatment of moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis in adult patients who have had an inadequate response to one or more DMARDs, including methotrexate.
Dosage
Adults: 40 mg administered every other wk as a single dose via SC injection.
Administration
It may be administrated in thigh, lower abdomen, avoiding areas within 2 inches of navel, rotate injection sites. Do not administer to skin which is red, tender, bruised or hard. Stability: Refrigerate 2°C-8°C. Do not freeze. While travelling it should be stored in a cool carrier with an ice pack. Protect it from exposure to light. Discard unused portions of the drug remaining from the syringe.
Adverse Effects
Injection site pain, upper respiratory infection, rash, sinusitis, headache.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Precautions: Pre-existing or recent-onset CNS demyelinating disorders, congestive heart failure.
Advice to Patient
First injection of adalimumab must take place in presence of a health care professional. If you are self-administering this medication, follow directions for injection and disposal of syringe or needle. Do not get vaccinated during therapy without consulting prescriber. Discontinue medication and inform prescriber if there is constant nausea, stomach pain, tingling or numbness, vision problems, weakness in limbs, difficulty in breathing, chest pain, joint pain, skin rash, swelling on face, redness/pain/swelling at injection site. Contact prescriber if there is constant fever, cough, weight loss, unhealed or infected wounds or injuries, flu-like symptoms, respiratory tract infections or urinary tract infections.
